Our Take
Streator Elementary School District 44 runs the city’s public schools from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, serving roughly 1,500 students across three buildings, according to its own staff handbook. The district office on North Bloomington Street is where parents go for enrollment, transportation and district-wide questions. What stands out is the grade-band setup: Kimes Elementary handles Pre-K through first grade, Centennial Elementary covers second through fourth, and Northlawn Junior High takes fifth through eighth. That means every child in town moves through the same buildings at the same ages, which builds a strong sense of shared cohort before students head on to Streator Township High School. It also means families with several kids may be dealing with more than one school at a time. The district website, ses44.net, links to each school and is the best place for calendars and enrollment details.
