Our Take
Northlawn Junior High School takes Streator’s public-school students through grades five to eight, the final stretch before Streator Township High School. Grouping fifth grade with the junior-high years is a little unusual, but it gives students four years in the same building to settle in, build friendships and grow into more independence before high school. Northlawn is part of Streator Elementary District 44 and sits on East First Street, with a main office number of 815-672-4558. Because every public-school student in town eventually passes through its doors, it plays an outsized role in the community, from school events to the transition into high-school athletics and activities. Parents can find calendars, staff contacts and announcements through the district website. For families with upper-elementary kids, Northlawn is the school to start learning about, especially as the jump to junior high approaches.
