James Street Recreation Area & Hardscrabble Lions Dog Park
820 James Street, Streator, IL 61364
Our Take
The James Street Recreation Area is a terrific example of reuse: what was once an industrial site is now a sprawling sports complex. It features multiple baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, a concession stand, spectator seating and restrooms that open during games and events, and it is home to the Streator Bulldogs soccer team through a partnership with Streator Township High School. For dog owners, the real draw is the Hardscrabble Lions Dog Park inside the complex, which offers separate areas for large and small dogs, shaded seating, shelter and posted safety rules. It is the only dog park listed in the city system, so it fills an important niche. A family can catch a game while the dog gets its exercise next door. Whether you are there for a tournament or a Tuesday evening romp with your pup, James Street is one of Streator’s most useful recreation spaces.
