Our Take
Community Players of Streator is the volunteer theater company behind the Engle Lane Theatre, and its season is one of the best entertainment values in north-central Illinois. The current lineup includes Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, directed by Nik Fri, plus a farewell run of Simply Patsy, Mary Pfeifer’s tribute to Patsy Cline. Beyond the shows, the group holds open auditions, takes director applications for future seasons, and funds a scholarship program, so it’s a place for local talent to grow as much as a venue to watch. The box office answers the phone at 815-672-3584 on weekday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m., and tickets can also be bought online. Anyone who wants to help can volunteer backstage, donate or sponsor a production. The theater itself is owned by the city, so the shows are a true civic partnership.
