Hopalong Mural Park
200 block of W. Main Street, Streator, IL 61364
Our Take
Hopalong Mural Park, near the Main Street bridge over the Vermilion River, is one of Streator’s most distinctive little spaces. It pairs the Hopalong Cassidy mural, celebrating the famous cowboy character created by Streator native Clarence Mulford, with a butterfly garden and river views. The result is a blend of public art, local history and nature that feels unique to this town. There is no playground or ball field here; it is a place to slow down, with benches for sitting and enjoying the river and the garden. It makes a great photo stop and a natural companion to the Hopalong Cassidy Trail and canoe launch just a few blocks west. Visitors interested in Streator’s cultural history should not skip it, and locals will find it a peaceful spot for a quiet break downtown. It is small, but it has more personality than many parks ten times its size.
