Streator Public Library
130 S. Park Street, Streator, IL 61364
Our Take
The Streator Public Library is both a working library and one of the most beautiful buildings in town. It is a Carnegie-era library from 1903, designed in the Classical Revival style with a domed rotunda and grand columns, and it is worth stepping inside just to look up. History buffs should seek out the Poundstone Flag, which local tourism officials describe as one of only six Civil War flags on public display in Illinois. Practically speaking, the hours are generous: 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 to 5 on Friday, and 9 to 4 on Saturday, closed Sunday, with some programs scheduled after hours. The library runs events for kids and adults throughout the year. It sits on South Park Street, right across from City Park, making it easy to pair with a downtown stroll. A genuine Streator treasure and an easy first stop.
