Our Take
The Streatorland Historical Society and Museum, at 109 East Elm Street, was founded by local residents who loved their town and wanted to preserve its history for future generations. Exhibits cover the people, industries and events that shaped Streator, including the coal mining and glass container eras, and the volunteers who staff it are a treasure trove of stories. For anyone researching family roots in Streator or curious about the city’s past, this is the place to start. Posted summer hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed Saturday through Monday; hours may change seasonally, so confirm before going. The museum can be reached by email at [email protected]. Donations of local artifacts and photographs are often welcome, and volunteers are needed.
