Harcar’s Meat Market on James Street is Streator’s dedicated butcher shop, and for anyone who cooks seriously, that is a big deal in a town this size. A real meat counter means you can ask for a steak cut to a specific thickness, a roast tied for a holiday dinner, or a quantity that does not come shrink-wrapped in a supermarket tray. Butchers also tend to stock items like house-made sausage or bulk freezer packs that chain grocers do not. The city’s tourism office lists it under butcher and specialty stores. We could not find a phone number or hours we trust from public sources, so we have left them empty; call around grilling season or before the holidays, when small meat markets get busy.
