Forensic nurse Tasha Arteaga spoke at a domestic violence awareness program hosted by the Zonta Club of Streator at Park Church. Arteaga, the I-80 Region Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Coordinator for OSF HealthCare, created the OSF Resilient Healing Follow-Up Clinic, which provides ongoing medical, psychiatric, forensic and psychosocial care after sexual assault and other interpersonal violence. She explained that survivors may seem fine for weeks or months before a reaction hits, and the clinic is built to help during that stretch. The Zonta Club described it as the only program of its kind in Illinois. The clinic has offices in Ottawa and Mendota and can be reached at 815-434-4382. Safe Journeys also helps people affected by domestic violence and sexual assault at 815-672-2353, with a 24-hour hotline at 800-892-3375.
